2006 NEWS

Paul Wainwright juried "PROOF: in B&W" for artSPACE@16 (Malden, MA). A reception with the juror and photographers will be held on Saturday, October 28, from 2 - 5pm. A gallery talk led by Wainwright will begin at 3pm. For driving directions, visit http://www.artSPACEat16.com/contactus.htm.

Approximately 35 NHSPA members and guests attended NHSPA's annual photography retreat to Star Island. (Visit the online gallery.)

Paul Wainwright received an Honorable Mention in the silver print competition at the Golden Light Awards, sponsored by the Maine Photographic Workshops.

Lynne Guimond Findlay was awarded first prize in the Professional Photography category at the Chelmsford Art Society's Annual 4th of July Art Festival.

2005

DECEMBER 2005 NEWS

The 2006 NHSPA Members Exhibition will be held from January 21 - February 25, 2006 at the Exeter Town Hall, Exeter, NH. The show is open weekends only from 1-4PM.

Paul Wainwright has several news items to report:

  • Two of his photos were accepted into the Hubbard Museum of the American West’s 14th annual juried exhibit of American photography, which runs through January 2006.
  • Five of his photographs are hanging in the current juried exhibit at 100 Market Street in Portsmouth, through January 8, 2006
  • Paul was accepted into the Cambridge Art Association’s Members Prize Show, which runs through December 20, 2005

Paul's large format, black-and-white images also comprise a solo show titled "Time Shadows" at the Panopticon Gallery in Waltham, MA from December 6, 2005 through January 14, 2006. (The Panopticon Gallery, owned by accomplished photographer and photography agent Tony Decaneas, is one of the oldest and most respected photography galleries in the country.) Paul invites NHSPA members and other interested parties to the opening reception on Thursday, December 15, from 6 to 8 PM.


 

NOVEMBER 2005 NEWS

Lynne Guimond Findlay was named a finalist in Photographer's Forum Magazine's 25th Annual Spring Photography Contest. She will also be participating in member holiday shows at the NH Art Association and the Newburyport Art Association.


 

SEPTEMBER 2005 NEWS

Lynne Guimond Findlay reports that she is participating in the Annual Art Exhibit at Beaver Brook Association (Hollis, NH ) on September 17-18 and 24-25, 2005. Her work was also accepted for "Kaleidoscope Reflections", an international juried competition at the Strathmore Hall Arts Center (Bethesda, MD), runing though mid-October.

Lynne and Paul Wainwright were juried in to the Newburyport Art Association (Newburyport, MA)'s “2005 Annual Photography and Sculpture Show, ” where Paul's work received honorable mention.


 

AUGUST 2005 NEWS

Paul Wainwright's solo show at the Wainwright Bank (Kendall Square, Cambridge MA) continues through September 1, 2005.


 

JULY 2005 NEWS

Carol Sandin is participating in a group exhibit with the Lamprey Arts & Culture Alliance of Newmarket (LACA), which runs til Aug. 12th. Evening hours are Friday Aug 5th and 12th, 6-8 PM at Ampers& Studio viewing gallery, lower level of Mill, 125 Main St. Suite C, Newmarket, across from Mirellis Mkt.

She invites NHSPA members and other interested parties to "stop by and see a fine group of works: photography, ceramics, paintings, jewelry, weavings, quilts and the like." (Make sure to see her three works while you're there...)


Lynne Guimond Findlay has several photographs and photo-based art pieces displayed on an ongoing basis at Amethyst Wyldfyre (Nashua, NH). She will be their October Artist of the Month; details on the artists' reception to follow.

Lynne will also be the September Artist of the Month at Borders Bookstore (also in Nashua.)

Lastly, Lynne announces the publication of her first book, Angel: Eyes: Bedtime with an Inquisitive Child, her Mother, and Her Guardian Angel. She has two other books scheduled to publish by the end of the year.


 

JUNE 2005 NEWS

Recent works of Dennis F. Evans will be on display at Bagel Works (42 North Main St., Concord, NH) during the month of June. His color and black & white photography will show a variety in technique and subject. The exhibit will highlight images from one of Evans’ collections entitled "Excursions In Color & Focus," which, through experimentation with focus, reveals the allure of near-abstract color fields.


Lynne Guimond Findlay will be among the artists exhibiting works at “Dream States”, an upcoming juried exhibition sponsored by the Caladan Gallery (Beverly, MA). Mrs. Findlay will be displaying three works: "Dancer I", "Dancer II", and "Fire IV." These photo-based illustrations were created specifically for the show and it is the first time they will be displayed publicly. Findlay’s images - as well as those of the other selected artists -- can be viewed at www.caladangallery.com from June 1 - June 30, 2005. (After that, the exhibition will be available for online viewing as an archive.)


 

MAY 2005 NEWS

Industry veteran Arthur Rounds announces the opening of Rounds and Company. The Mont Vernon, NH-based company focuses on producing giclée prints, commercial photography, high-end digital printing, film scanning, and other computer services for the advertising community. It also provides individualized photography instruction. For additional information, contact Arthur at 603-494-7633.


Paul Wainwright has a solo show at the Wainwright Bank (Kendall Square, Cambridge MA) from June 1 - September 1, 2005.

Two of Paul's photographs successfully juried into the show "The Tree in Landscape" at Panopticon Gallery (Waltham MA), running May 12 - July 15, 2005. The opening reception is May 19, 2005, from 6 to 8 PM. Panopticon will also be offering his prints for sale on an ongoing basis.

And reserve these dates: Paul has upcoming shows at St. Anselm College (Manchester, NH) and The Robert Floyd Gallery (Southampton, MA), both in September 2005.


 

APRIL 2005 NEWS

Peggy Darnell entered the Mustard Festival Photo Competition last season, which chronicles the two-month season of mustard plants that bloom among the grapevines (and seemingly everywhere else) in Napa Valley, California. She sold five of the six prints she entered, won three ribbons... and the People's Choice Award!

This past February, she visited Christo and Jeanne-Claude's "The Gates" exhibit in Central Park, NYC. Her essays about the experience was published by the The Napa Valley Register, along with three of her photos.


Works by Paul Wainwright and Lynne Guimond Findlay were juried into the Cambridge Art Association's Open Photography and Sculpture Show. The exhibition runs through April 28, 2005 at the Kathryn Schulz Gallery(Cambridge, MA)

Lynne is also featured at the Inaugural Gallery Show at Martin's Photographix (Nashua, NH) through April 29, 2005.


 

MARCH 2005 NEWS

Lynne Guimond Findlay was awarded first prize in the photography category at the Inaugural Juried Art Show at EW Poore (Manchester, NH)


 

FEBRUARY 2005 NEWS

Several NHSPA members are included in “Photography Today", an exhibit at Manchester's Wiggin & Nourie Law firm. The show runs from January 31 through April 22 and features works by Gene Goodale, Don Johnson, Claudia Rippee, Diane Sherman, Rick Strawbridge, John Teti & Paul Wainwright.


Paul Wainwright's photograph, Roswell's Barn, has been accepted into the San Diego Art Institute's 48th Annual Juried Exhibit, juried by Derrick R. Cartwright, director of the San Diego Museum of Art. Paul's photograph was one of only 98 works selected from more than 1400 works submitted by more than 700 artists from the USA and 11 foreign countries. The exhibit will be at SDAI's location in Balboa Park, San Diego, from May 1 - June 12, 2005, with the opening reception on April 30, 2005.


 

JANUARY 2005 NEWS

Paul Wainwright has received the Institution for Savings Charitable Foundation Award for Excellence in Photography at the Newburyport Art Association’s 2005 Winter Juried Show. This show, which runs through February 15, 2005, was juried by Rebecca Reynolds, a curator and independent art scholar, who was formerly with the Museum of Fine Art in Boston.

The juror commented: “Wainwright’s technical proficiency is evidenced not only in the exquisite photograph, but also in the finely-crafted walnut frame. Although the nature of this photograph draws you in close to take in every detail, be sure to step back enough to appreciate the carefully composed tonal modulations and to experience the depth of its spiritual feeling."


Several photos by Gary Samson were published in the January 6-13 issue of Hippo Manchester.


The NH Society of Photographic Artists Members Group Exhibit is running January 15 - February 27, 2005 at the Exeter Town Hall Gallery, Exeter, NH (second floor of Town Hall building; open weekends only). The opening reception is January 15, 2005 from 1-4PM.


Lynne Guimond Findlay will be participating in the "Biennial Regional Jurors' Choice Competition" at Thorne-Sagendorph Art Gallery; Keene, NH. The show runs from January 22 - March 6, 2005, with an opening reception on January 21, 2005 from 5-7:30PM.
