RECENT EVENTS

November 20, 2011 - NHSPA Membership Meeting, 2-4pm, Fuller Hall, New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester.

During the business meeting, we reviewed the recently concluded (and very successful) Joint Photographic Exhibition and exchange with the Camera Club of Exeter, England. Plans for 2012, including the Annual NHSPA Membership Exhibition beginningn in January at the Exeter Town Hall Gallery, was also presented.

Following the business meeting, we enjoyed a presentation by NHSPA member Jeff Wagner on cell-phone photography and some of the apps that process the image right in the phone.

September 25 through October 10, 2011 - A Joint Photographic Exhibition by The New Hampshire Society of Photographic Artists and The Exeter Camera Club of Exeter, England was held at the Wentworth-Coolidge Mansion in Portsmouth.

July 30 - August 6, 2011 - 5th Annual Star Island Digital Photography Workshop.

June 5, 2011 - The NHSPA Annual Meeting was held at the Fuller Building of the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester on Sunday, June 5th.

March 27, 2011 - The spring meeting of the NHSPA was held at Fuller Hall, New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester.

The program featured Todd Kramer, a visual artist from Portsmouth. Todd led a discussion and critique of photographs brought to the meeting by NHSPA members and discussed techniques for doing critiques.

PAST EVENTS

November 14, 2010 - NHSPA Membership Meeting was held at the Portsmouth Public Library's Hilton Garden Inn meeting room.

Our speaker was Seacoast resident and NHSPA member David J. Murray, who discussed High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography. David is a freelance photographer who turned pro and started Clear Eye Photo in 2008, after retiring from a 30-year career as a Silicon Valley executive, software engineer, computer scientist, and entrepreneur. David's focus is nature, travel, portrait, architectural, and performance photography.

November 14, 2010 - The NHSPA Board met prior to the Membership Meeting in Portsmouth.

September 26, 2010 - Fall lecture program featuring Mary Virginia Swanson was held at the Casey Function Center in Portsmouth. More than 50 people were in attendance, including ten new NHSPA members.

In a lecture titled YOUR WEBSITE/YOUR VOICE: Effective Communication in the Online Environment, Mary Virginia Swanson explained how to identify and communicate to your audience, as well as how effective language and strong visual content strengthens your message. Examples of effective print pieces, websites, and e-communication were shared to underscore the value of brand continuity and clarity as you present your artwork to the world.

August 7-14, 2010 - 4th Annual Star Island Digital Photography Workshop.

June 6, 2010 - The NHSPA Annual Meeting was held at the Fuller Building of the New Hampshire Institute of Art in Manchester on Sunday, June 6th.

Election of officers for the upcoming two year period was held. Information on the upcoming joint exhibit by the Exeter (England) Camera Club and NHSPA, which will feature images by members of both groups, was presented by Alison Forbes.

In the first part of the program, Tom Wright discussed how he combines two or more images to produce beautiful panoramic and High Dynamic Range (HDR) photographs. This was followed by Paul Wainwright's presentation about his odyssey in creating "A Space for Faith," his recent photo book about colonial meetinghouses in New England.

Jan 16 - Feb 13, 2010 - The Annual NHSPA Membership Exhibition was held at the Exeter Town Hall art gallery.

November 21, 2009 - The fall meeting of the NHSPA was held at the Amherst Street Gallery of the New Hampshire Institute of Art. Members and guests enjoyed the opportunity to view "In the Blood, Cape Breton: a Visual Diary" by NHSPA member Gary Samson.

After the viewing at the NHIA gallery, a luncheon was served at the Currier Museum of Art, followed by a docent tour of "Brett Weston: Out of the Shadow," the first major Brett Weston exhibit in 30 years.

August 8-15, 2009 - 3rd Annual Star Island Digital Photography Workshop.

June 7, 2009 - The NHSPA Annual Meeting was held at the Fuller Building, New Hampshire Institute of Art at 1 o'clock PM.

The program was presented by NHSPA member Gary Samson, who showed images from his recent sabbatical on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. A short business meeting followed the program.

April 11, 2009 - Sean Kernan, a commercial photographer from Connecticut, conducted a one day hands-on seminar in Portsmouth on "creativity." The program began and ended with photography, and addressed questions of what makes work good, how it connects to our lives, and why we need to "forget what we know" from time to time.
